Welcome to Wollaston, Quincy.
Wollaston is a neighborhood in the City of Quincy, divided by Hancock Street into two sides called Wollaston Heights and Wollaston Park respectively. North Quincy, Quincy Bay, Merrymount and Quincy Center, as well as the town of Milton bound Wollaston. The history of Wollaston goes back to 1624, when a man named Thomas Morton emigrated from England to the Plymouth Colony with Captain Richard Wollaston. Since the two didn't get along with the Pilgrim authorities, they left in 1625 with a few dozen other colonists. The group settled in what is today the Quincy neighborhood of Merrymount, and today the Wollaston neighborhood is situated west and northwest of the original settlement. There are plenty of things to do in Wollaston today, and residents can enjoy close proximity to the expansive Quincy Bay with its beachfront joints and recreational options. The Quincy Bay is the largest of three small bays of southern Boston Harbor, and is known as Wollaston Bay in the neighborhood. The Wollaston Beach is a popular area for boating and fishing, as well as fishing and sailing tournaments. If you're in the area looking for a place to eat, check out La Paloma, a Mexican spot for chimichangas and drinks, or Clam Box, a beachfront joint for seafood specialties. For a green respite, visit the Merrymount Park by the bay, which features recreation facilities and an amphitheater as well as a sports stadium, fields and a boathouse!
