WINTHROP
Massachusetts, U.S.A.
A BOSTON HARBOR SUBURB
Welcome to Winthrop, a city in Suffolk County, Massachusetts.
Winthrop is home to around 17,500 people and is a beautiful ocean-side suburb of Boston, right at the north entrance of the renowned Boston harbor. Besides being right by the sea and the bustle of the big city, residents also enjoy close proximity to the Logan International Airport. Winthrop is situated on a peninsula covering 1.6 square miles, and connects to East Boston with a bridge over the harbor inlet. The town was settled in 1630, and is one of the smallest and oldest communities in the United States. The southernmost part of the city features a 7-mile shoreline stretch with stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the impressive Boston skyline to the west. The town center of Winthrop features a number of small and medium sized businesses, including Ace Hardware, CVS Pharmacy, and a USPS office. Most shoppers these days travel to the nearby North Shore region, where there are shopping centers like the Square One Mall. However, the town has maintained a minor but strong business life of its own, which is distributed over four distinct districts: The Shirley Street Business District, The Highlands District, The Center and The Magee's Corner District. Thanks to its great location, Winthrop offers residents lots of outdoor recreation with two main beaches; Winthrop Beach and Yirrel Beach. There are also a number of smaller beaches including the Donovan's Beach, Halford Beach, Pico Beach, Point Shirley beach and Short Beach. So if you're looking to live in a suburb close to Boston, while enjoying life by the sea this is your perfect spot!
