WEST PORTAL
SAN FRANCISCO’S UNBLEMISHED JEWEL
Welcome to West Portal, San Francisco.
This is one of the few neighborhoods in San Francisco you could leave for a decade and when you return, it'll still look the same. West Portal is somewhat of an idyll with a very low crime rate in other words, an old-school San Francisco neighborhood. In fact, locals testify that it looks very much like it did 20-30 years ago! West Portal has all the necessary elements of a perfect small town, all within the realms of the big city. Beginning at the end of the MUNI-line's Twin Peaks tunnel, it ends at the edge of a residential district; and at the very heart lies a three blocks long shopping district. This little gem brags features like a total of 26 restaurants, a movie theatre, a bookstore, several banks and a library. Oh, and of course, two genuine Irish pubs. The fact that West Portal lacks all the typical modern characteristics of a hip San Francisco neighborhood like hipsters, Google buses and a hoard of bicycles is only to its advantage. The very essence of West Portal is that it is nothing like any place else in the city and something of a respite from the fast, urban life San Francisco is known for. This is a wonderful place to raise a family away from the crowded metropolitan but still within close vicinity to everything you need. Thanks to the frequent fog, the area stays green and lush, and on a clear day you can get a great view of the Marine Headlands and Farallon Islands from the park above the tunnel.
