Washington, U.S.A.
Welcome to Vancouver, Washington.
Vancouver is situated on the north bank of the Columbia River in the State of Washington, and is home to around 161,800 people. Vancouver shares its name with the larger city of Vancouver in southern British Columbia, Canada. Hence, the two are often confused, and to separate them locals often refer to their city as Vancouver, USA or Vancouver, Washington, while the Canadian city is called Vancouver B.C.. The American city is in fact older and incorporated in 1857, 29 years before its Canadian neighbor. The City of Vancouver has made a dedicated effort to revitalize the downtown area, and in the early 2000s, the city's local art scene started to flourish. Downtown is now home to a plethora of art galleries, and in 2014, the Arts District was formally recognized as a neighborhood in the heart of Vancouver. In the Arts District is the 1936 Kiggins Theatre, which was renovated in 2011 and now features an independent film and community event venue. For those who are into classical music, check out the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, which was formed in 1970s and delivers some of the world's finest symphonic performances to Vancouver residents. With a wide array of shops and galleries, running the gamut from famous designer names to quaint little boutiques, Vancouver has an abundance of shopping options. Check out the latest trends at the Westfield Vancouver Mall, Southwest Washington's largest shopping destination. When you're done with the mall, stroll the charming Main Street in Uptown Village with its many independent shops and memorable restaurants; just a few blocks from downtown. Some of the finest dining places and most interesting stores are located in the historic gem of Battle Ground Village, which you'll find nestled in the heart of the city. Whatever you are looking for, you'll find it somewhere in the great city of Vancouver, Washington.
