Welcome to Thornton, Colorado.
Thornton is a city located around 10 miles outside downtown Denver, and has an estimated population of 82,384 people. Once upon a time, Thornton was solely farmland, but in 1953, a man named Sam Hoffman purchased a lot off Washington Street and created what grew to become the City of Thornton. Thornton is a green city, with 81 city parks and almost 2,000 acres of parks and open space. The city also features more than 80 miles of trails running throughout, as well as several recreational facilities including the Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center and the Thornton Community Center. Golf enthusiasts won't be bored, as Thornton offers a number of courses including the Thorncreek Golf Course and Todd Creek Golf. In terms of commercial amenities, Thornton residents can enjoy multiple shopping districts. The Lakridge Mall, Thornton Town Center and Thorncreek Crossing Shopping Center are a few of the options available, with plenty of retail stores and restaurants. Larkridge also features a pedestrian village with several national anchor tenants like Bed, Bath & Beyond and Sears Grand store, as well as a plethora of big box retailers and excellent dining establishments. Finally, Thornton boasts a few famous residents. Some of these include Todd Helton, a Major League Baseball player, and Brandon Buckley, a renowned entertainer.
