Welcome to Tarzana, Los Angeles.
Tarzana was once ranch land owned by Edgar Rice Burroughs, author of the Tarzan novels. Most believe the city was named after the prolific character Tarzan, but the reverse is true. Burroughs moved with his family to California from Illinois in 1919, where he established the Tarzan Ranch. In the coming years, he subdivided the ranch in lots and sold it off for residential development. This quiet affluent suburb is located in the San Fernando Valley, and with around 29,600 residents it has one of the lowest population densities in Los Angeles. The neighborhood of Tarzana has always been exclusive, but it is now a moderately diverse, residential neighborhood with families and various notable celebrities living within the area. Residents enjoy their luxurious gated communities, Country Clubs, or a more rural lifestyle in the planned community of Melody Acres. The reality star Kim Kardashian actually lived in such a community with her husband Lamar Odom. Tarzana is a typical family oriented suburb, popular with commuters for its excellent location just one hour from both Century City and Downtown Los Angeles. Public schools in the area are part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, though many parents send their children to private schools. Park space is plenty with the Tarzana Recration Center, and in terms of shopping and dining, the neighborhood is filled with shopping centers where you can find anything from upscale restaurants to low-key establishments, boutiques and spas. If you're looking to live the suburban life in Los Angeles, Tarzana is definitely a place to look into!
