Michigan, U.S.A.
Welcome to Sterling Heights, Michigan.
Sterling Heights is a suburban city to Detroit, and home to around 130,000 people. Sterling was an agricultural area largely devoted to growing rhubarb, until the city was incorporated in 1968. Before it was renamed, it was known as Sterling Township. Sterling is home to a variety of European ethnicities, including Albanians, Bosnians, Croatians, Macedonians, Montenegrins, Serbians and Slovenians, who moved out from Detroit and Hamtrack. In the 1990s, the Macedonians and Serbians had the nickname Yugos, while the Albanians were called Albos. Today, Sterling Heights is a great place to live, and has been ranked sixth safest city in the U.S. in its size. The city is home to lushly landscaped parks, a world-class library and fantastic neighborhoods with both low taxes and crime rates. Locals describe it as being second to none in terms of quality of life, and many proclaim the city as one of the finest communities to raise a family. If you truly want to experience the great community spirit, check out one of the many local festivals and events. One such event is the Sterlingfest Art and Jazz Fair, which is held the first Thursday through Saturday every August and attracts over 100,000 attendees annually. During the fair, you can experience live music by major artists, local Michigan jazz acts, an art fair and tons of food and entertainment. Sterling Heights is a great place to both shop and do business, as it is home to over 3,500 commercial and industrial establishments. Dine in memorable and ethnic restaurants, enjoy live music in terrific venues and shop in unique stores Sterling Heights offers an abundance of ways to play. As a bonus, the city is situated just around half an hour away from downtown Detroit with all it has to offer!
