ST. PETERSBURG
Florida, U.S.A.
THE SUNSHINE CITY
Welcome to St. Petersburg, Florida.
St. Petersburg is a city in Pinellas County in, known for its award-winning beaches and its everlasting sunshine. The city actually holds a Guinness World Record, with an average of 361 days of sun per year! Nestled on a peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, St. Petersburg is the second largest city in the Tampa Bay area with almost 250,000 people. Locals often call the city St. Pete, while others call it The Sunshine City for its many days of sun, low cost of living and popularity as a retirement resort. St. Petersburg is also a popular vacation destination for both American and foreign tourists. While the city is filled with retirees, the younger population has begun to increase, and American Style Magazine recently ranked St. Petersburg its top mid-size city for its vibrant art scene. Residents and visitors to the waterfront escape can enjoy not only miles of white beaches, but destinations like the world-renowned Salvador Dali Museum, top-rated restaurants and the scenic Fort De Soto Park. The heart of the city is the downtown area, where you'll find excellent shopping, fabulous restaurants, hip bars and numerous attractions. Discover exciting flavors at the Locale Market, a unique 20,000 square foot marketplace offering the freshest produce and the most exquisite artisan foods in the region. Or check out the endless number of theaters and galleries in downtown, including the Mahaffey Theater complex, the Morean Arts Center, the Palladium Theaters and The Coliseum. Many of the museums downtown have received notable accolades, including the Salvador Dali Museum, the Florida International Museum and the Florida Holocaust Museum. Venture slightly north of downtown, where children might enjoy a visit at the Great Exploration of Children's Museum; an interactive museum featuring a children's village with giant pretend stores, a fire house, a pet vet clinic and more. The city's downtown has in fact been rated among the best in the south, and when you're done exploring this exciting area you can take the picturesque Beach Drive and be down at some of America's finest beaches in only a few minutes. Both Dr. Beach and TripAdvisor have rated the Fort De Soto beach the number one beach in the country, and St. Petersburg is widely regarded as one of America's most livable cities!
