SOMA, SOUTH OF MARKET
A BUSTLING BIG CITY NEIGHBORHOOD
Welcome to SoMa, or South of Market, San Francisco.
This is a relatively large neighborhood in San Francisco, located south of Market Street. SoMa contains several sub-neighborhoods including South Beach, Mission Bay and Rincon Hill. Home to many of the city's museums, you have quite a bit of culture to choose from here. Some of them include the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the Museum of the African Diaspora. For theatrical fans, there is more than one venue to attend; like the Lamplighters, The Garage, Theatre Rhinoceros and Boxcar Theatre to only name a few. This lively neighborhood also hosts a plethora of events throughout the year, and in honor of the area's rich gay rights history, the Folsom Street Fair is held on Folsom St between the 7th and 12th streets. SoMa is truly an urban area with a mix of large warehouses, auto repair shops, nightclubs, hotels, art spaces, apartment lofts, furniture showrooms, condominiums and of course, tech companies. The neighborhood fits young and metropolitan people that enjoy the hustle and bustle, but there are also spots where families can enjoy themselves. For instance, a huge children's park was built for the area on top of Moscone South, where kids can have fun at the play area, skate at the ice rink, bowl or go in circles on the merry-go-round.
