Arizona, U.S.A.
Welcome to Scottsdale, Arizona.
The City of Scottsdale is situated in the eastern part of Maricopa County, adjacent to the Greater Phoenix Area. The city was founded in 1894, and named Scottsdale after the founder Winfield Scott. When the city was incorporated in 1951, its population was only around 2,000 people. Today, Scottsdale is a vibrant hub in Arizona with more than 230,000 residents, which makes it the sixth-largest city in the state. Downtown Scottsdale has been described by The New York Times as a desert version of Miami's South Beach and as having plenty of late night partying and a buzzing hotel scene. Scottsdale's slogan is: The West's Most Western Town. The city is famous for offering a high quality of life to its residents, and it has been named the Most Livable City in the United States. A sizable portion of the city's economy is derived from the thriving tourism, and one of the attractions are the fantastic golf courses. In fact, Scottsdale is continuously ranked as one of the top destinations for world-class golfing, with more than 200 area courses of spectacular design. The Boulders Resort & Golden Spa was selected the second best golf resort in the nation, and other notable golf destinations in Scottsdale include Firerock, Troon North and Desert Mountain. Scottsdale is divided into several distinct sections. One of the more prominent areas is Old Town Scottsdale, where you'll find lots of fashion stores, memorable restaurants, bars, nightclubs and art galleries. This eclectic area boasts historic charm and is the focal point for Scottsdale's nightlife. This part of town also comprises a major art center of metro Phoenix, and the Arts District features a high number of museums, studios and galleries with a diverse collection of styles and genres. Downtown is also where you'll find commercial features like the Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall one of the largest malls in the country. Scottsdale residents are no strangers to a good time, and the city hosts a number of festivals annually. One of the most famous events is the Jaycees Parada del Sol, a month-long cowboy-event that has been held in Scottsdale since 1954. During the festival, cowboys and cowgirls from all over the country participate in the cultural and historical festivities. The festival begins with the Parada del Sol Parade, which is the word's largest horse-drawn parade drawing more than 40,000 people per year!
