California, U.S.A.
Welcome to Scotts Valley, California.
This little city of around 11,500 people is located in the Santa Cruz County, around thirty miles south of downtown San Jose and six miles from Monterey Bay. Scotts Valley is beautifully situated in the groove of the Santa Cruz Mountains among ancient redwood trees and lined by a rocky coastline. Albeit a small town, visitors and residents of Scotts Valley can enjoy a wide range of activities and attractions, both in the form of natural adventures and urban recreation. A place to check out is the so-called Scott House, the 1853 home of Hiram D. Scott one of the earliest settlers whom the city was also named after. The old house was build from redwood trees and bares characteristics of classic New England architecture. The building has been restored since its original days, and still has the same doors, framing and plasters as it did in the past. The city owns the Scott House today, and it is protected as a landmark and open for visitors just make sure to book a tour in advance, as this place is popular! Another wonderful tour to take part in is the Heritage Trees Tour, where you'll get to learn about the so-called Heritage Trees, which are protected by the city for their historic value, age and size. You don't need to have a guide for the tour, as there are maps and listings on the city's website that you can use to plan your own tree expedition! So grab your camera and a pair of sensible shoes, and head down to explore the Hoover Redwoods on Southwood Drive or the cypress trees on Granite Creek Road. For more outings, definitely check out Scotts Valley's Skypark, where dogs are welcome and you'll find a walking trail and a garden with plants and picnic tables. You'll also find a skate park, tennis courts and soccer fields, as well as a large playground for the little ones!
