SACRAMENTO
California, U.S.A.
CAPITAL OF THE GOLDEN STATE
Welcome to the capital of California, the sixth-largest city in the state. It is situated at the confluence of the Sacramento River and the American River.
Sacramento gained prominence during the California Gold Rush, when the city operated as a major distribution point, a commercial and agricultural hub, and a terminus for vehicles, like wagon trains and riverboats. Today, as a charter city, Sacramento is exempt from many laws and regulations passed by the state legislature. Naturally, the top employers in the city are the state and county governments, followed by the UC Davis Health system. Intel and Kaiser rank in the top 10 as well. Major and minor venues feed the economy and culture, and actually, the city has one of the largest collections of community theaters in California. Sacramento is also known as "America's Farm-to-Fork Capital", a food culture that sources ingredients from California's numerous world-famous farms, many of which are relatively close to the city. And like many places on the West Coast, it has a thriving craft brewing industry that might rival the passion of Napa Valley wineries. Sacramento exists within a Mediterranean climate, featuring damp winters and dry summers. The hottest months can be cooled down by a sea breeze called the "delta breeze", and really helps to reduce the temperatures at night. Snowfall is rare, but it can occur.
