Minnesota, U.S.A.
Welcome to Rochester, Minnesota.
Rochester is a the seat of Olmsted County, located on the Zumbro River's south fork and home to around 107,000 residents. The city was established in 1855, when it developed as a stagecoach stop between Saint Paul, Minnesota and Dubuque, Iowa. Upon the arrival of a railroad in the 1860s, Rochester grew rapidly with new residents and various business opportunities. The community was named after Rochester, New York. Rochester doesn't have any natural lake; instead there are artificial lakes such as Silver Lake, which gives residents access to a tranquil respite right by the city center. The city also has a plethora of parks, including the Silver Lake Park and the Soldiers Field. Between the lake and the park, residents can enjoy an abundance of great activities, including fishing and boating, ballgames and relaxed picnics in the lush landscape. Rochester boasts its fair share of Nationally Registered Historic buildings, including the wonderfully restored Chateau Theater and former hotel Avalon Music. Art connoisseurs can head downtown to visit the Rochester Art Center, where various exhibitions are held throughout the year. The city is no stranger to festivities, and every Thursday in the summer, Downtown Rochester puts on the popular Thursdays on First; where local restaurants and artists set up booths along First Avenue. Live music by local bands and eclectic street performers amplify the merry atmosphere, during this great time to experience the community spirit. With great parks, lots of recreation and a terrific quality of life, Money Magazine has continuously ranked Rochester as one of the top three places to live in the country.Other accolades include No. 6 in 10 Best Cities for the Next Decade by Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine, and No. 2 in Quality of Life according to American City Business Journal.
