California, U.S.A.
Welcome to Redlands, California.
Redlands is situated in San Bernardino County, approximately 10 miles east of downtown San Bernardino. The big town with a small-town feel is home to around 70,000 people, and is often called The City of Beautiful Homes. Founded in 1881 and incorporated in 1888, Redlands was known as The City of Millionaires for much of the 20th century. For much of its history, Redlands was known as the Washington Navel Orange Growing Capital of the World, as the citrus industry was a vital component to the city's economy. While the industry has since changed, the community still is very much what it once was, with a quintessential small-town feel but all the amenities of a great city. Head down the tree-lined State Street and you'll notice the many historic buildings and quaint little stores and boutiques. Famous buildings like the A.K Smiley Public Library from 1898 and stands as monuments to the past, giving you a glimpse into Redlands' old days. Check out the Redlands Bowl; just steps from downtown and built in 1930, it is oldest operating free outdoor concert series in California. Head west to the Smiley Park neighborhood, where you'll find a plethora of turn-of-the-century bungalows and several landmark homes. Drive past historic structures like the Morey House or the impressive homes of the Butler Belt of Olive Avenue and Highland Avenue. The Butler Belt was so called because it at one point in time more butler's than anywhere else in the city were employed in this neighborhood. If you're a history buff, visit the home museum Kimberly Crest House and Gardens, and the adjacent Prospect Park. Head to a picnic at one of the many green parks, or visit the old campus of University of Redlands the attractions are numerous in this beautiful historic gem! Stop by for a meal at one of the many restaurants, head for a day of shopping in Citrus Plaza, or why not try a few beers at Hangar 24 Craft Brewery?
