REDAN
Georgia, U.S.A.
A PEACEFUL RESPITE
Welcome to Redan, Georgia.
Redan is a census-designated place in eastern DeKalb County, and is home to around 33,000 people. The area comprises an affluent and predominately African-American community, named after the numerous redans built during the Atlanta Campain of the Civil War. Some people say that Redan is actually named after a trading stop along the railway, called Redan Store. The store was run by a couple named Reed and Ann, hence the abbreviation Redan. The area is mainly rural and residential, and features beautiful nature and many impressive estates belonging to the wealthy. Redan residents have access to wonderful trails throughout the wooded surroundings, and those who enjoy living in a quiet area without commercial activity will find it to be a gem. Residents can gather at the Redan Park and Recreational Center which offers activities like golfing, tennis and playgrounds for the children. The Southeast Athletic Complex offers sports and fitness facilities, and the Mill Lake by the Lauren Plantation offers a tranquil piece of water by the cliffs. The area is also home to a community church called White Oak Hills Baptist Church, as well as Redan Elementary and Redan High School. Redan doesn't have many stores within its perimeters, aside from the Redan Mercado Shopping Center and the Redan Food Mart. However, shopping can be done at surrounding areas, where stores like The Mall at Stonecrest and Ralphs can be found.
