SHOE TOWN
Welcome to Randolph, Massachusetts.
Randolph is a town in Norfolk County and home to around 32,000 residents. The area was incorporated in 1793 from a south precinct of Braintree, and was named after the first president of the Continental Congress, Peyton Randolph. The Town of Randolph was originally the home of numerous major shoe companies, and many exclusive shoe fashions were created here. The shoe industry started from a side-business started by farmers to supplement their income, and grew into the biggest source of income for Randolph over the next century. Workers from all over North America and Europe traveled to take part of the booming industry, and the large immigration influx contributed to coloring the town into a vibrant business hub. However, the shoe industry declined in the first half of the 20th century, when it was exchanged for light manufacturing and various service industries. But thanks to the railway leading to Boston and other metropolitan areas, Randolph grew as a bedroom community for commuting workers. The city has several attractions, including historical Jonathan Belcher House, the Gills Farm Archeological District and the Randolph Country Club. Residents and visitors can enjoy the green expanse of the Belcher Park, while the town's youth can spend hours of fun at the Randolph Skate Park & Supplies. The recreation center of Randolph often arranges events and activities for the community, and there are several golf courses and monuments of historical significance. It is also noteworthy that Randolph lies within close proximity to two important locations The Boston Logan International Airport, and the Babson College.
