Welcome to Potrero Hill, San Francisco.
This neighborhood is one of the sunniest spots in San Francisco, and its luster is further amplified by the stunning views over San Francisco Bay and the city skyline. Back in its inception, Potrero Hill was a working-class neighborhood, but today it is home to mostly upper-middle class families. Potrero Hill is a residential neighborhood that is spared from the tourist crowd. It isn't the most walkable area due to its hilly terrain, but it is still considered a very convenient location thanks to its proximity to offices, shopping, dining, entertainment, major freeways and public transportation. Albeit surrounded by busy neighborhoods, Potrero is a quite peaceful and quiet place. Back in the 1960's, many artists and members of the LGTB community began migrating to Potrero Hill for its low rents and terrific location. During the same time, the neighborhood exploded into a creative hub, which led to the establishment of several artist studios, art schools and showrooms, in an area know as Showplace Square. Potrero Hill's main shopping strip is on 18th street, and this is also where you'll find most of the restaurants and nightclubs. Beer enthusiasts can check out the Anchor Brewing Company, a place that's been around since 1896. Take the 90-minute tour to see how beer gets brewed, and sample a few flavors at the end. To be safe you need to reserve months in advance, as this place is extra popular among Potrero Hill residents and visitors.
