PORTOLA VALLEY
California, U.S.A.
A PRESERVED FOREST TOWN
Welcome to Portola Valley, California.
This city of little over 4,000 people is located in the San Mateo County. It was named after the Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portola, who first came to explore the San Francisco Peninsula in 1769. Portola Valley is among the most affluent towns in the country, and the sixth richest zip code in the state of California. It's no wonder that this place is so desirable, the way this quaint, well-kept little town is situated amidst forested hills, only just west of the world-renowned Stanford University. The town is proud of its rich history, first class schools and cooperative community spirit. You'll feel like you're in the countryside here, with wide-ranging trails, vast open spaces and gorgeous natural scenery. The architecture here goes by an unity code making sure that everything immaculately blends in, which contributes to the pristine appearance of the city. As far as commercial activity, there is only just enough to satisfy the needs of the residents of the town, but not more than that. Hence, Portola Valley has kept the small-town ambience and rural surroundings of its early days. Portola Valley has two excellent primary public schools, the Ormondale School (named after a racehorse!) and the Corte Madera School, so you can be sure that if you decide to raise a family here you're kids will be in great hands!
