Welcome to the Playhouse District, Pasadena.
The Playhouse District is a vibrant and eclectic neighborhood, comprising Pasadena's premier entertainment and financial district. The neighborhood is a truly cosmopolitan community, and boasts a rich history and stunning architecture. The Playhouse District is home to a variety of businesses and attractions, including the Community Bank headquarters and numerous award-winning theatre institutions. Thespians may want to visit the internationally acclaimed Pasadena Playhouse, the Boston Court Performing Arts Complex and the Furious Theatre; while those who enjoy art should stop by the Pasadena Museum of California Art or the USC Pacific Asia Museum, which features the latest in contemporary and Asian-inspired art. For a fun night out, head to the popular Ice House Comedy Club for a few great laughs. And if you're a bookworm fond of the past, check out the Vroman's Bookstore, which is Pasadena's oldest operating bookstore. At the corner of Colorado Boulevard and Oakland Avenue, you'll find the historic Pasadena Star News building. The newspaper was first published in 1884 and ran for a long time, but today the building houses the Technique at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. The district is notable for its manhattanization, which refers to the legacy of extensive urbanization from the 1960s to the 1980s, with dense multi-use and commercial construction. This creates a terrific downtown feeling in the Playhouse District, which is very walk-friendly. In fact, you may want to walk just for the sake of experiencing beauty of the many historic buildings.
