PHILADELPHIA
Pennsylvania, U.S.A.
BIRTHPLACE OF AMERICA
Welcome to the birthplace of America.
Philadelphia played a critical role as a meeting place for the Founding Fathers of the United States, where they imagine and drafted the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. There is, perhaps, no other city in the nation with such historical significance to the United States, and for that reason, it's outfitted with more outdoor sculptures and murals than any other American city. It's also the home of the first US library, hospital and zoo, and is home to the World's largest landscaped urban park. The city's economy is fueled by information technology, manufacturing, oil refining, food processing, health care, biotechnology, tourism and financial services, with seven Fortune 100 companies located within the city limits. Philadelphia is also home to the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, the first and oldest stock exchange in the US. However, the city's largest employers are the federal and city governments with the University of Pennsylvania being the largest private employer. There are no shortage of museums, art and historic sites in Philadelphia, and even if you're not in the immediate vicinity of any historical site, the entire city is one giant historical site, temporarily serving as the nation's capital during the Revolutionary War. Popular nightlife in South Street and Old City light up the streets late into the night, and over 200 pieces of government-funded public art and over 2,800 government-funded murals decorate the urban landscape. These programs supports a thriving culture of artists, and provide a legal outlet for graffiti artists.
