Welcome to Panhandle, San Francisco.
This neighborhood is suitable for the younger crowd, and attracts mostly students from the University of San Francisco. The fact that so many kids in their twenties hang around here has lead to a bustling nightlife, with popular bars along Turk and Masonic. The USF favorite is 1751 Social Club, where youngsters come to shake their limbs to the beat and socialize, during the many dance nights featuring R&B and jungle music. For some authentic Mexican food, dive down to the Papalote Mexican Grill on 24th and Valencia, and for a late night snack grab a slice at the Panhandle Pizza Company. While located in an urban sprawl, Panhandle features quite a bit of greenery. There is a path for biking and riding and courts for playing various ballgames amidst fragrant laurel trees. Take your bike and continue down the path to the eastern side of Golden Gate Park, where you get even more lush surroundings. In short, Panhandle is not the place for retirees or families with kids, but more of a temporary stay for singles or newlyweds that are looking for a youthful neighborhood with plenty of fun.
