California, U.S.A.
Welcome to Oxnard, California.
Oxnard is a city situated along the beautiful coast of Southern California, around 30 miles west of Los Angeles. With approximately 203,600 residents, this picturesque city is listed both as one of the safest and wealthiest communities in the U.S. The City of Oxnard was incorporated in 1903, and thanks to its location at the fertile Oxnard Plain, it grew to become an agricultural hub. Oxnard produces around one-third of California's strawberries, and each year, the city celebrates the California Strawberry Festival. During this merry event, an estimated 1.5 million strawberries are consumed in every imaginable including strawberry pizza! Oxnard boasts spectacular beaches, with more than 20 miles of scenic coastline. There are several renowned spots down here, such as the Hollywood Beach, Mandalay State Beach and Silver Strand Beach. It is no wonder that Hollywood cinematographers discovered the beautiful city over a century ago, when Paramount Studios decided to utilize Oxnard's sprawling coastline as the perfect backdrop for the Egyptian desert in the movie The Sheik. Soon after, more Hollywood studios and stars followed, and Clark Gable even bought a home in the area. Other famous names that have been associated with the city are Charlie Chaplin and John Wayne, who enjoyed the peaceful, untouched haven of Oxnard. One of the best things about Oxnard is that it is so unpopulated by tourists, allowing residents to keep their calm respite unblemished. If you're looking to eat something besides strawberries, despair not Oxnard features plenty of first-class restaurants. One of the most unusual and lauded dining spots in Oxnard is the Nawlinz Bistro. This eccentric spot serves unusual dishes like Alligator Andouille Po'Boyz and Fat Tuesday Catfish tastier than it may sound, according to locals. For excellent wines, head to the Herzog Wine Cellars, which boasts the country's largest collection of kosher wines. Attached to the wine bar is a top-rated restaurant called Tierra Sur, which of course serves kosher food and has an innovative menu. If you'd rather have a burger, check out two of Oxnard's most beloved local burger joints Hook Burger and The Kitchen on A. A must-visit for any shopper is the quaint and perfect Oxnard's Heritage Square, a historical plaza with restored Victorian and Craftman houses. With fountains, gardens and adorable old buildings, the little village offers true respite from modern time.
