Kansas, U.S.A.
Welcome to Overland Park, Kansas.
Overland Park is a suburb to Kansas City, home to around 173,400 residents. The city's history begun in 1905, with the arrival of its founder William B. Strang Jr., who purchased land lots that are now part of the old downtown area. One of his subdivisions is now named Overland Park, which was the site for the first airplane flight west of Mississippi in 1909. The site hosted shows by the famous Wright brothers, events that were sponsored by Strang himself. Overland today embodies the vision of its founder; a park-like community with strong commerce, quality education, vibrant neighborhoods, easy transportation routes and plenty of recreational facilities features that makes Overland Park a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family. Not only does Overland boast more than 1,800 acres of park land and open space, but the city's 72 parks include golf courses, volleyball courts, hiking and biking trails, playgrounds and much more. Overland is also home to the lush and beautiful Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, a 300 acres arboretum and botanical garden with plenty of colorful flora in an immaculate landscape. Residents can enjoy a day of shopping at the Oak Park Mall, one of the area's top retail destinations featuring anchor tenants like Nordstrom, Macy's and JC Penny, and nearly 200 other stores. Or head to the Historic Downtown Overland Park, which features a farmer's market, a clock-tower plaza and a beautiful statue of the city's founder William B. Strang. Jr. Kids might have fun at the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead, one of the foremost tourist destinations in the Kansas City area. With more than 200 animals, bay rides, a 1900s schoolhouse and a fishing pond, this quaint little place was recognized by the Nickelodeon Channel as the top attractions for families in Kansas City.
