California, U.S.A.
Welcome to Orange, California.
Home to around 140,000 residents, Orange is a city located around 3 miles north of Santa Ana, Orange County. Orange separates itself from many other communities in the region because of its many old structures; many of the homes in the Old Town District were built before 1920. While other cities demolished such houses in the 1960s, Orange preserved them, retaining the old-time charm of the past era. The City of Orange incorporated in 1888, but its history goes back longer than that. In 1869, lawyers Alfred Chapman and Andrew Glassell acquired 1,385 acres of land from the Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana, as legal fees. Shortly after, the men established a one square mile town with farm lots surrounding the central town site. The town center became known as the Plaza, earning the city the nickname Plaza City. The Plaza is today listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Old Town Orange contains a vibrant commercial district, which includes Orange's oldest operating bank and the oldest soda fountain in use. Walking the streets of Old Town Orange is a joy, as the neighborhood features a beautiful mix of architectural styles, including Craftsman Bungalow, Victorian, Prairie Style and Spanish Colonial architecture. Old town is home to a wide variety of antique shops, which has made it a top destination for antique collectors. There are also several clothing boutiques, casual and upscale restaurants, and chain establishments like Starbucks. The City of Orange features plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation, with numerous parks, a small zoo, and even a wildlife sanctuary. The city also boasts a prominent institute for higher learning; the Chapman University, home of the Panthers football team. For shopping, dining and entertainment, head to The Outlets and Orange; a large outdoor shopping and entertainment center with features like Old Navy and Saks Fifth Avenue, AMC Theaters and a Lucky Strike Bowling Center.
