Kansas, U.S.A.
Welcome to Olathe, Kansas.
Olathe is a city in Johnson County, located in northeastern Kansas. With around 126,000 residents, Olathe is the fourth most populous city in the state. The city is home to the MidAmerica Nazarene University and the Kansas State School for the Deaf. Dr. John T Barton founded Olathe in 1857, when the land was just plain prairie filled with wild flowers. He thought the area was so pretty that he wanted to name the town Beautiful, and asked a Shawnee interpreter how to say the world in his native language. The interpreter told him the translation was Olathe, and so the city got its name. The city is still mighty gorgeous, with plenty of lush parks to enjoy. Pack your picnic basket and head for a day in the sun at the Black Bob Park, where you'll find a playground for the kids, basketball courts, multi-use trails, fishing and swimming areas and much more. Another fantastic spot is the Ernie Miller Nature Center & Park, a 116-acre green space with three trails, a nature center and a spectacular outdoor amphitheater, as well as a wildlife viewing room and a 500-gallon aquarium Olathe offers a wide variety of activities for both residents and visitors, ranging from family-friendly escapes to couples retreats, shopping, dining and sightseeing. History buffs can explore the American heritage at the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm, while thespians may revel in dramatic performances at the Olathe Community Theatre. Art connoisseurs should make a trip and visit the many art museums in nearby Kansas City, while sports fans can enjoy a Chiefs or Royals game. Oh, and if you're into fine wines, don't miss the award-winning wines at the Stonepillar Winery and Vineyard!
