Welcome to Oakland, California. With a population of around 414,000 , it is the third largest city in the San Francisco Bay.
With a wealth of redwood trees and subsequent log production, its abundant natural resources helped build San Francisco. The city grew in the 20th century thanks to its busy port, shipyards and thriving automobile industry, and after San Francisco's big earthquake in 1906, many of the affected residents located to Oakland.
