OAK HILL
MILITARY VILLAGE
Welcome to Oak Hill, Newton.
Oak Hill is one of thirteen villages in Newton situated on a landform, which is one of seven principal elevations in the city. Post World War II, the Oak Hill Park was established on a gravel quarry, with 412 houses for the returning GI's. Back then, various areas in Newton were developed and expanded to create affordable housing for returning veterans. Many of the original dwellings still remain today, mixed with newer, larger structures. Residents in Oak Hill are surrounded by green space, with the Hancock Woods, the D. Blakely Hoar Sanctuary, the Brook Farm and the Nahanton Park. The Cutler Park is a wetland and lake where you can go bird watching or canoeing, and the Millennium Park offers miles of multi-use trails and scenic views. In addition, the famous Charles River lines the outer edges of the neighborhood, providing further recreational opportunities. Most of Oak Hill is purely residential, but there are several schools in the village including Memorial Spaulding Elementary School, Charles E. Brown Middle School and Newton South High School. There aren't really that many restaurants directly in the neighborhood, but both dining and shopping can be found in the surrounding villages like Waban, Brighton, and Needham Hights.
