NORTHWOOD
A PLANNED FAMILY COMMUNITY
Welcome to Northwood, Irvine.
Northwood is a community in the northern part of Irvine; a city part of Orange County, California. The Santa Ana Freeway, Culver Drive, Portola Parkway and Jeffrey Road border the neighborhood, which was established in the 1970s. Northwood is the only community in the city of Irvine that was not developed by the Irvine Company, and hence is not governed by any homeowner's association. Today's Northwood was once part of the Irvine Ranch, and the community was formed by chunks of land donated to employees by the Irvine family. Over 60 percent of the homes in the neighborhood were constructed between 1977 and 1979, although another community called Northwood Pointe was developed in the late 1990s. While adjacent to Northwood, Northwood Pointe is not actually part of the neighborhood, but a separate community developed by the Irvine Company. Northwood boasts many unique characteristics, like the lush eucalyptus windrows growing throughout. Many of the trees in the neighborhood were planted back when Northwood was part of the Irvine Ranch, when they functioned as crop protection against the volatile Santa Ana Winds. Residents have access to spectacular views of the Santa Ana Mountains to the north, and most people live in modern homes situated on generous lots. There are several green parks in the community of Northwood, including the Blue Gum Park, Brywood Park, Carrotwood Park and Coralwood Park. And since the schools in Irvine are not gated, Elementary Schools in the area serves a double function as parks as well. The neighborhood attracts many families thanks to its terrific schools, which is part of the Irvine Unified School District. The elementary schools, which include Santiago Hills Elementary School and Canyon View Elementary School, all boast top scores. Middle Schools and High schools in the area are equally prestigious, and the Northwood High School has even won several Grammy Signature Awards. So rest assured, if you are relocating here with your family, your children's education is covered! For shopping, head to the Northwood Town Center, Trabuco Plaza or the nearby Irvine Spectrum!
