NORTH END
LITTLE ITALY
Welcome North End, Boston's most culturally rich neighborhood!
North End is often nicknamed Little Italy, thanks to the large Italian American population that has their home in the neighborhood. Being settled in the early 17th century, the waterfront community is also one of the oldest in Boston. The neighborhood is small, but the square mile it covers manages to create quite an allure with its many fine Italian restaurants, authentic espresso bars and the best gelato money can buy. North End features an eclectic mix of architectural styles from all periods of American history, ranging from old buildings like Old North Church and Paul Revere House to late 19th and 20th century structures. While a whole third of the population here is Italian or Italian American, the rest of the residents are a diverse blend cultures with young professionals, college students, business owners and families. However, the neighborhood politics in North End is still dominated by the Italian American crowd. Attractions in the area include the North End Music and Performing Arts Center, as well as the Improv Asylum Theatre, both located on Hanover Street. North End is also home to a total of six of Boston's public artworks, with the Boston Art Commission being in charge of them. These include the North End Library Mosaic, Paul Revere Sculpture, Merchant Marine Memorial, Benjamin Franklin Tablet, Massachusetts Beirut Memorial, and finally, the Christopher Columbus Sculpture. North End is truly a must-visit for both authentic Boston culture as well as a taste of real Italian American flavor, and you're sure to leave the neighborhood feeling a renewed sense of culture that will soon allure you back to these blocks!
