NORTH DRUID HILLS
Georgia, U.S.A.
AN IDEAL RESIDENTIAL SUBURB
Welcome to North Druid Hills, Atlanta.
Druid Hills is of dual features, being both a neighborhood in the city of Atlanta as well as a census-designated area in DeKalb County. North Druid Hills is situated five miles from downtown Atlanta, and is home to around 15,000 residents. Originally, Druid Hills was a planned neighborhood. In the late 1880s, a famous Atlanta developer named Joel Hurt envisioned an ideal residential suburb for the area that is today Druid Hills. Mr. Hurt was also responsible for the creation of Atlanta's first suburb, Inman Park. Druid Hills features a gorgeous array of historic homes in styles like Georgian, Tudor, Jacobean and Italian Renaissance. These residences, which range from quaint bungalows to spectacular mansions, display some of the finest period architecture in all of Georgia. This superbly designed neighborhood is also home to the famous CDC-center as well as the prominent Emory University. Druid Hills' commercial area is situated in Emory Village, and has long functioned as the focal point of the neighborhood, especially for students and faculty at the university. The historic district underwent major revitalization 2011, and is today a spitting image of its prime years. Culture lovers should pay a visit to the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, a prolific non-profit arts center and originally home to Charles Howard Candler, son to Cola-Cola's founder. History buffs can revel in the past at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, a significant museum featuring a plethora of interesting exhibitions. For outdoor fun, check out the Druid Hills Golf Club, a private country club that was founded in 1912. The club offers more than just golf, also featuring a restaurant, fitness facility and swimming.
