NEWTONVILLE
LOTS OF STORES
Welcome to the neighborhood of Newtonville, one of thirteen villages in the city of Newton.
Newtonville is primarily residential and is divided into two parts, divided by the Massachusetts Turnpike and the MBTA rail. The main street of the village is Walnut Street, and the urban section of the road features a plethora of dining places, excellent bakeries, cozy cafes and plenty of service establishments. You'll also find numerous fitness centers, so health enthusiasts have lots to choose from! Austin Street further branches off Walnut and provides another commercial strip with features like Starbucks and a Goodwill location. To the north of the Massachusetts turnpike you'll find Washington Street with its many restaurants, beauty parlors, hair salons and liquor stores, as well the largest Post Office in Newton and Whole Foods supermarket. Newton has two high schools, and one of them is situated in Newtonville; Newton North High School. The neighborhood also has easy access to public transportation with the MBTA train station, which takes commuters to surrounding areas around the city and the greater Boston area. The little neighborhood boasts several previous residents that have gone on to be famous, including actress Josephine Hull, baseball player Warren Huston and the Governor of Massachusetts, William Claflin.
