NEWTON HIGHLANDS
THE HISTORIC DISTRICT
Welcome to Newton Highlands, Newton.
Newton Highlands is one of thirteen villages in the city of Newton, and most of it is suburban except for the commercial district along Winchester and Needham Streets. Most retail stores are dotted along Lincon St., which lies perpendicular to Walnut St. This section is also part of the Newton Highlands Historic District. Originally, the historic district was residential in character, with houses built between 1874 and 1911, with styles like Queen Anne and Colonial Revival. In the 1990s, commercial buildings were added and stores popped up, comprising what is today the main shopping area of Newton Highlands. More retail can be found to the south, in the dense commercial district of Needham Street, where you'll find faithful establishments such as China Fair and the New England Mobile Book Fair and many more. The neighborhood also has its own MBTA Green Line/Newton Highlands Station, which is situated conveniently by the commercial center. In June, the community comes together for festivities during the Village Day, a general celebration of the Newton Highlands' community. The festival includes a 5k race, different vendors and plenty of food. A small carnival is put up and residents can enjoy great music from local bands.
