THE CITY OF HOMES
Welcome to Newnan, Georgia. This city of 33,000 people is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the state, but has retained its characteristics of a southern small-town community. The old hospital town of Newman is home to six historic districts, as it was largely spared from the civil war damage that ravaged other towns. Today, the city is often called “The City of Homes” and is known as an ideal place to live and work. Offering a safe environment and top quality features, this beautiful town is home to a thriving business life, as well as clean and pretty residential areas. The city is a planned for economic growth, and its strong foundation is displayed in the acclaimed public school system. The revitalized downtown features astonishing antebellum architecture, with attractions including the Coweta County African American Heritage Museum and Research Center. Even the film and television industry has been drawn to the city’s unique allure and Newnan has been featured in several large movies and TV-shows. Employment rates are high in Newnan, with many office locations accommodating the ever-growing work force. The city’s convenient location by the Interstate-85 further amplifies the town’s position as a hub for professional resources. For outdoor recreation, visit the Dunaway Gardens where you’ll find a 25-acre floral garden with five terraces featuring things like rock walls, patios, waterfalls and a granite offshoot called Little Stone Mountain. Also check out the Chattahoochee Bend State Park, a nearly 3,000 acre natural reserve with plenty of recreational opportunities like fishing, hiking and river rafting. For culture, head to The Male Academy Museum, where you can explore period clothing and furniture exhibitions, and discover Indian and Civil War artifacts. The museum is located in a former boy’s boarding school from 1840, and is a true testament to the historical district that Newnan comprises. Lastly, an event that can’t be missed is A Taste Of Newnan, a bi-annual community event on Main Street where the many restaurants and caterers of Coweta County are featured along with live bands and plenty of games for the whole family!
