Welcome to Newhall, Santa Clarita.
Newhall is a district in the southernmost area of Santa Clarita, and being the first permanent Anglo settlement in the valley, it is the oldest district in the city. Previously home to the Lyons Station Stagecoach Stop, the district was named after businessman Henry Newhall. Newhall is home to the William S. Hart County Parks, where film-enthusiast can enjoy tours of the famous silent moviemaker's private mansion. Being a historic district, Newhall features several other attractions, including the Pioneer Oil Refinery. This California Historical Landmark is the oldest surviving oil refinery in the world, and also the first commercially successful refinery in the state of California. Newhall boasts a little bit of fame as well, as it has been the backdrop for numerous movies, including Suddenly from 1954, as well as Walt Disney's The World's Greatest Athlete from 1973. The unblemished nature of Newhall offers plenty of outdoor recreation, and those who would like to take a closer look can venture off to the Placerita Canyon Nature Center for hiking and wildlife exploration. Or if you're up for more of an action adventure, check out the Oak Tree Gun Club, which is rumored to be the best outdoor shooting range in SoCal. Experience serenity at the Santa Clarita Woodlands, or sit back and enjoy a play at the Repertory East Playhouse. And when you feel like a real party, come and take part in the festivities of the Cowboy Festival at Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio!
