California, U.S.A.
Welcome to Mountain View, California.
This city of around 74,000 people is located in the south end of the San Francisco Peninsula, and was named for its views of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Mountain View is home to a plethora of high-tech companies like Google, Mozilla Foundation, Symantec Sympohony, Teleca and Intuit. Downtown Mountain View is very accommodating toward pedestrians and consists of seven blocks, going from the Downtown View Station in the north to the El Camino Real in the south. Down here you'll find an abundance of restaurants, cafs, and shops some of them more renowned than others. Chez TJ on Villa Street is one of the more famous dining establishments and one of the few restaurants rated by the Michelin Guide in the Bay Area. Next door you'll find the The Tied House, which was one of the first brewpubs in the Bay area. Both are immensely popular spots for downtown patrons. The essence of downtown is the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts (MCVPA), the Mountain View Public Library, and The Plaza. The Plaza often utilized for community meetings and events, and it also features a great collection of art. At the MCVPA you can see plays from esteemed theatre companies like Peninsula Youth Theatre and TheatreWorks. Located behind those buildings is the tranquil Pioneer Park, where you'll find peace and quiet thanks to the noise-blocking City Hall. The city offers plenty of other parks as well, with the largest one being the Shoreline Park. The park features an amphitheater, a golf course and the historical site of the Rengstorff House. The San Francisco Trail runs through the park along ponds and mudflats, and Stevens Creek runs through Mountain View and empties into the Bay here. Other parks include de Eagle Park, the Dana Park and the Charleston Park. Mountain View has a bunch of festivals as well, like the annual Mountain View Art & Wine Festival, which has been held since 1971 on Castro Street. On Sundays, there's a farmer's market in the Caltrain Parking lot, and every summer the city celebrates Thursday Night Live with live music events and car shows downtown.
