Welcome to Montclair, Oakland.
Montclair is also known as the Montclair District or Montclair Village, and is located around the Hayward Fault, which forms a valley by the western slope of Oakland Hills. This affluent neighborhood is home to the upper middle-class as well as the truly wealthy, and the houses range from well-kept cottages to impressive mansions; huddled together in the rich forest of the hills. There are very few apartment and condominium complexes in the neighborhood, and most of them are located in the Village area. Montclair is dominated by single-family homes in which the dwellers are on the upscale side of the spectrum. Part of the allure with this neighborhood is its outstanding public schools, which are in fact some of the best in Oakland. Among the top ones are Montclair Elementary, Thornhill Elementary, Joaquin Miller Elementary and Montera Middle School. Another thing that draws people to this area is the vicinity to parks; Montclair Park, Beaconsfield Canyon, Blair Park, Diamond Canyon Park, Huckleberry Botanic Regional Preserve these are only fractions of the green space available to the denizens of Montclair. Lake Temescalis is open to visitors from 5 am to 10 pm and receives around 200,000 visitors a year. Here you can find planted fish like Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass and Redear Sunfish and let your kids play in the shallow waters by the little beach in the woods.
