Welcome to Mission Hill, Boston.
This neighborhood covers almost one square mile in Boston, and has a population of around 20,000 people. Around one fifth of the people living in this area are either students from neighboring colleges, visiting scholars, researchers, or doctorates at the adjacent Longwood Medical Area. The Longwood Medical Area comprises 21 health care, research and educational institutions, which together constitute the biggest employment area in Boston aside from downtown. Columbus Avenue and Roxbury bounds Mission Hill, as well as the town of Brookline. Residents here have access to plenty of culture, with the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Gardner Museum within walking distance. Mission Hill has seen lots of recent development with new restaurants and retail stores popping up everywhere, alongside new residential constructions. The neighborhood is an architectural landmark district, featuring a mix of detached historical houses and rows of brick townhouses, as well as a multitude of triple-deckers. Much of the newer development is in the form of condominiums, but there are also some newer single and multi-family homes. In 2008, The Boston Globe named Mission Hill the 25th "Best Zip Code in Massachusetts", because of the increase in property value alongside a vibrant restaurant and shopping scene. Other reasons included the racial diversity and the neighborhood's eco-friendly transportation ways with bikes, public transit and walking. Residents here can also enjoy their share of green space, thanks to the Kevin W. Fitzgerald Park. The park features lawn space and asphalt walkways, lined with resting benches that face spectacular views of the Lower Roxbury, Fenway and Back Bay.
