MISSION BAY
A MODERN NEIGHBORHOOD BY THE MARINA
Welcome to Mission Bay, San Francisco.
This neighborhood is located on one of the largest remaining open lands in San Francisco, and has been designed as a modern city within a city. Home to several large institutions like a university campus and a hospital, this area of San Francisco is home to a community that looks to the future. While much of the city aims to preserve what has been, Mission Bay is all about new development and modernization. The beautiful waterfront is filled with dive bars and restaurants, like the Ramp with its hip patio, Mission Rock with its combination restaurant and live-music club, and Jelly's, a trendy dance club where residents and tourists socialize after sundown. Being a modern community in progress, aside from the bars and restaurants by the marina, there aren't many locally owned businesses. Instead, you'll find a number of franchise chains like Subway and Panera, with the occasional gem like Philtz Coffee on Berry Street, which offers quality coffee by the cup. Those who are interested can venture off along Channel Street and take a peak at the houseboats that are moored in Mission Creek. These eclectic sea beauties where once considered a visual offense because of their bright colors, but thanks to headstrong residents, they have been allowed to stay put until 2055.
