MILPITAS
California, U.S.A.
CROSSROADS OF SILICON VALLEY
Welcome to Milpitas, California.
This city of roughly 70,000 residents is part of the Santa Clara County and borders the East Bay and Fremont. The name of the city, Milpitas, derives from the name milpa, a Mexican/Spanish word for cornfield. Basically, the town was called place of little cornfields thanks to its rich soil and abundant crops. Milpitas is today a progressive community and a vital part of the high tech Silicon Valley. This diverse and affluent city offers top quality schools and plenty of neighborhood parks and shopping. While Milpitas doesn't really have a downtown center, it offers several minor retail centers close to the different residential areas in the city. The Midtown-area is the oldest part of Milpitas and still features a number of historic residences, being the only remaining commercial district from before 1945. For shopping, definitely look up the Great Mall of the Bay Area, which is the largest enclosed mall in Northern California, featuring around 1 million square feet of retail and entertainment space. And as far as green areas, Milpitas has more than enough to offer its citizens. Check out the Calle Oriente Park, a cute little park with 2 picnic tables, a handball court and a playground; and the Cardoza Park with plenty of recreation like an outdoor amphitheater. The Craighton Park is a great site for family picnics and outings; and the Dixon Landing Park has a total of 3 tennis courts, 6 BBQ pits and several ball courts, as well as a playground.
