Texas, U.S.A.
Welcome to Midland, Texas.
Midland is a city on the Southern Plains of western Texas, with around 124,000 residents. Originally, the city was founded as the midway point between Fort Worth and El Paso on the Texas and Pacific Railroad in 1881. Among other things, Midland is known for being the hometown of former First Lady Laura Bush, as well as the previous home of former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. The city boasts a terrific arts scene, with venues like the McCormick Gallery in the Allison Fine Arts Building. The gallery is situated on the campus of Midland College, and hosts rotating exhibits with both works of the students and visiting artists. For performing arts, head over to the Permian Basin, where the Midland Odessa Symphony and Chorale (MOSC) has performed for over 45 years. The MOSC is the largest orchestral organization in the region, and offers numerous concerts throughout the year played by professional musicians from the area and surrounding cities, as well as three resident chamber ensembles. The Permian Basin is also home to the Midland Community Theatre, which has performed everything from musicals to comedies to the city since 1946. History buffs can explore exhibits at The Museum of the Southwest, which features a collection of paintings by various artists. The same complex also houses the Children's Museum and the Marian W. Blakemore Planetarium. Those who like airplanes can check out the American Airpower Heritage Museum, which displays and preserves World War II artifacts and memorabilia, as well as actual aircrafts. Sports fanatics, get your cheering hat on and head to either the Grande Communications Stadium to see the West Texas United Soccers, or the Security Bank Ballpark to watch the Midland RockHounds baseball team bring it home. Great restaurants with true southern food, lots of shopping, and plenty of cultural attractions Midland has it all!
