MIAMI GARDENS
Florida, U.S.A.
HOME OF THE DOLPHINS
Welcome to Miami Gardens, Florida.
Miami Gardens is a suburban city in Miami-Dade County, home to around 110,000 people of predominately African-American descent. The city name derives from one of the major thoroughfares in the area, the Miami Gardens Drive. When the I-95 was constructed in the late 1960s, many middle and upper class African American and West Indian American families moved from surrounding Miami neighborhoods to the newly established Miami Gardens (then called Norwood or Norland). The city was incorporated in 2003, and comprises several neighborhoods that were previously unincorporated areas within Miami-Dade County. Miami Gardens is a city revolving around sports, boasting major teams like the Miami Dolphins who play at the Sun Life Stadium. The stadium also hosts the yearly Orange Bowl college football game, and acts as the home field for the University of Miami Hurricanes football team. Those who are more into gambling than football can head over to the Calder Race Course and Casino, which is a combined casino and thoroughbred horseracing track. If you are an individual of faith, you may find your home at the Antioch Mission Baptist Church of Miami Gardens, which is a mega-church with over 7,500 active community members.
