MEDFIELD
Massachusetts, U.S.A.
A HISTORIC TOWN
Welcome to Medfield, Massachusetts.
The town of Medfield is situated in Norfolk County, around 45 minutes outside Boston's financial district. The town is home to an affluent population of around 12,000 people. The town of Medfield was originally named Dedham, and was incorporated in 1636. Rev. Ralph Wheelock is credited as the founder of the town, and he was the first principal of the town's school in 1655. Today, Medfield has an elementary school named after him. Medfield offers plenty of historic places, including the Peak House (built in 1680) and the Dwight-Derby House (built in 1651). History buffs can visit the Medfield Historical Society museum, which houses artifacts and documents from the town's old days. As far as green space, residents of Medfield have plenty. The Rocky Woods is a nearly 500-acre reservation with miles of nature trails perfect for hiking or biking, as well as a few ponds for fishing, and picnic space. Also worth a visit is the Metacomet Park, which features four tennis courts, several ball fields and a small playground. If you really want to experience the community spirit, come here during the third Saturday of September, when the town celebrates Medfield Day in the town center.
