Georgia, U.S.A.
Welcome to McDonough, Georgia.
The City of McDonough is located in Henry County around 31 miles from downtown Atlanta. The city was incorporated in 1823 and named after Commodore Thomas McDonough, a naval hero in the 1812 war. Originally, the town was a relay station between New York and New Orleans. McDonough's population has expanded immensely in the past decade, with population growing up to 160% since 2000. Today, the picturesque city is home to 22,000 residents and is constantly thriving upward. It is the county center for arts, with the historic McDonough Square featuring historical buildings and a burgeoning commercial district with a plethora of stores, antique shops, dining and art galleries. In addition, the city is home to several large businesses like the Snapper Products Company. McDonough has made itself quite a revered name, being called things like National Main Street City and City of Character. It is no wonder really with the number of festivals and activities the town holds throughout the year. For instance, visitors can participate in the annual Geranium Festival where regional flora is showcased alongside local artists and other talents. Landmarks include the Southern Bell Farm, where visitors can interact with true farm-life through berry harvesting and fun events like pig racing. History buffs should visit the Henry County Courthouse, a centerpiece of downtown McDonough built in 1897. Park space is ample with the 129-acre Heritage Park, which contains a historic village and an old schoolhouse, which paints a vivid picture of the city's past. Visitors can get a history lesson at the Historical Veterans Museum or just stroll the area and explore relics of long gone times. Whether you are just passing through or here to stay, McDonough comprises a wonderful small-town with all the amenities of a bigger city. And should you crave a more urban experience, Atlanta with all its neon lights is just a skip away!
