Sprawled around the San Francisco University, the main focal point of Lone Mountain is the school with its many halls, classroom buildings and student housing complexes. Not surprisingly, many of the people that live in this fairly expensive neighborhood are attached to the school in some way, such as current or former faculty members or students. The SFU is known as a private liberal-arts university run by the Jesuits (or the "society of Jesus" in Catholic circles), where students get cultured in prestigious schools of law, business, nursing and education.
This diverse neighborhood is a clean and well-ordered place, where the neat streets are lined with plenty of residential buildings - but not so many stores.
For shopping and recreation, you have Geary Boulevard on the neighborhoods northern side, where there is a modest selection of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars; as well as the necessary service amenities like a local post office.
While the area lacks it's own green space (aside from the lush Lone Mountain campus), residents have convenient access to the beautiful Golden Gate Park right at the entrance of the neighborhood. In addition, the Koret Health and Recreation Center is open to both USF students and neighborhood residents.
