LINCOLN HEIGHTS
WHERE ART AND HISTORY LIVE
Welcome to a neighborhood recognized for its diversity, arts, and far away feel, even though it’s just four miles from Downtown LA. This East LA community attracts immigrants and artists, it’s got a reputation for being a homey landing place for both, yet its welcoming quality makes it a great escape for urbanites desiring just a little less urbanity. It’s got a city feel, no doubt, just in a laid-back, “this is home”, even old-fashioned sort of way. Maybe that’s because its the oldest suburb in Los Angeles. That brings a sense of place that is palpable in the streets and in the eyes of residents. The actual Lincoln Park, which the neighborhood is named for, is a sprawling refuge with a lake and playing fields, and has been a prized neighborhood gathering place for over a century. The Brewery Art Colony holds the title of the world’s largest live/work artist colony and it calls Lincoln Heights home. Their bi-annual artwalks bring in the curious for a rare chance to observe and purchase the workings of the over one hundred artists in residence.
