LARKSPUR
California, U.S.A.
THE DIRTY HARRY MOVIE LOCATION
Welcome to Larkspur, California.
Larkspur is home to around 12,000 people and is located around three miles from San Rafael, north of San Francisco and near Mount Tamalpais. A man named Charles W. Wright founded Larkspur in 1887, and the first post office opened in 1891. The historic downtown district, Old Downtown Larkspur, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Old Downtown is home to the restored Art Deco Lark Theater, where visitors can enjoy a number of great performances. The small city has been featured in a few movies, like the 1971 film Dirty Harry, in which Clint Eastwood starred. The movie was filmed in the old Hutchison Gravel Quarry, which is now called Larkspur Landing. The film noir Impact from 1949 was shot at the gas station of the Propert family, a location which is now home to The Tavern at Lark Creek. Several celebrities are associated with the city, such as Pete Carrol Gabrielle Cateries, Erin Gray, Gavin Newson and Robin Williams, whom all attended Redwood High School. Janis Joplin lived her last days in Larkspur, and Leon Uris wrote his first novel Battle Cry in the town. For some fun on the city, check out the Left Bank in Larkspur, an authentic Parisian brasserie in the historic Blue Rock Inn. Surrounded by the historic charm of downtown Larkspur, it was built in 1895, and has been a popular place ever since.
