LAKE FOREST
TWO LAKES AND ONE FOREST
Welcome to Lake Forest, California.
Lake Forest is home to around 79,300 people and is located in Orange County. Before the city was incorporated in 1991, it was known as El Toro. In year 2000, the community of Lake Forest voted to expand it city limits to further include the master-planned developments of Foothill Ranch and Portola Hills, leading to new homes and commercial centers for the Northeastern part of the city. Lake Forest is one of the safest cities in the country, making it an attractive place to live for families. Lake Forest is named after the two man-made lakes within its limits, which are lined with condominiums and custom single-family homes. The first lake is the Lake Forest Beach and Tennis Club, and the second is the Sun and Sail Club. Both facilities feature a number of recreational amenities, including an array of ball courts, fitness rooms, barbeque pits, multiple swimming pools and even saunas, as well as clubhouses where residents gather for various social events. The name Lake Forest is not entirely named after the lakes however, and the forest part is derived from the eucalyptus forest in the area between Ridge Route, Jeronimo, Lake Forest and Serrano Roads. Surprisingly, the forest is man-made as well; planted in the beginning of the 20th century by local landowner Dwight Whiting. The forest was part of a lumber operation intended to attract development to the area, which proved to be a successful endeavor when the Occidental Petroleum Company developed a residential community in and around the Eucalyptus groves in the 1960s. Aside from the vast forest and the beautiful lakes, residents have access to further recreation at the Lake Forest Sports Park and Recreation Center. The center opened in 2014 across the street from the Saddleback Church the 8th largest church in the U.S. and features a Sports Park and a Recreation Center with classrooms and various activities. The city is also home to two county parks, the Whiting Ranch and the Heritage Hill historical park. The latter is home to some of the oldest buildings in the county, including the Serrano adobe, the El Toro School House and St. Georges Episcopal Church. In addition, Lake Forest boasts a 40,000 square feet Skatepark for the young at heart!
