BROOKHAVEN
AN UPPER CLASS HAVEN
Welcome to Brookhaven, Georgia.
Brookhaven is a newly incorporated city in the northeastern suburbs of Atlanta, in the western part of DeKalb County. With a population of 49,000, Brookhaven is the county's largest city. The city may be recently incorporated, but its long past can be seen in the historic homes that range from century-old cottages, bungalows and ranches. The old homes are accented by new and modern developments, creating a wonderfully eclectic appearance. Brookhaven is home to a number of prominent institutions like the Oglethorpe University and a Georgia State University satellite campus, as well as several large parks. The Briarwood Park is an 18-acre park with recreational features like a gym, basketball court and meeting room. The park also offers a large swimming pool, playground, ball courts and more. In addition, Brookhaven residents can enjoy the in comparison gigantic Murphy Candler Park, with recreation options like multi-use athletic fields and even a lake for fishing! Youngsters interested in sports can also take part in one of the several ball leagues the park offers. Little ones enjoy the Ashford Park, a small park with a playground, sand pit and monkey bars. Brookhaven is one of the Atlanta metro's wealthier suburbs, with several historic homes being sold for over $1 million. The area is coveted for its large homes and terrific schools, and popular neighborhoods include Brookhaven Village, North Brookhaven and Lynwood Park. Shopping can be done at the Town Brookhaven, where one can find a plethora of restaurants, shops and services. The mall also features a large fitness center and a movie theatre; and more specialty shops can be found at the Northeast Plaza.
