Welcome to the Home of the Pittsburgh Zoo.
There's lots to see and do in the open green spaces of Highland Park. This residential community, northeast of Downtown Pittsburgh, was historically home to workers in the more commercial neighboring community of East Liberty. It's known for its striking collection of 19th and 20th century architecture, steep terrain, and gorgeous tree-lined streets. Though a number of retailers have appeared in Highland Park over the years, it remains a relaxed, mostly residential, family-oriented enclave. The community is perfectly situated between Highland Park (the actual park for which the neighborhood is named), and East Liberty, and offers an impressive bang for the renter's or homebuyer's buck. The stunning 500-acre park attracts visitors from citywide and beyond to enjoy it's Super Playground, scenic wooded trails, beautiful sculptures, tennis courts, and swimming pools. For more fun, the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium offers over 400 species to observe, giving visitors the rare chance to visit a zoo and aquarium combination. In fact, it's one of only six such combinations in the entire U.S.; just one more thing that makes Highland Park appealing to the kid in us all.
