A VIBRANT ART TOWN
Welcome to Griffin, Georgia. The city of Griffin is the county seat of Spalding County and home to around 24,000 people.
Griffin was founded in 1840 and named after the landowner Lewis Lawrence Griffin. The city has been home to several notable people and has even been featured in movies and TV-shows, including the Walking Dead and The Hunger Games. In addition, Griffin is home to several prominent institutions like the Griffin Technical College and the Southern Crescent Technical College. The City of Griffin has seen recent recognition as a vibrant hub for the arts. With a flourishing scene of dance, arts and crafts, and music, Griffin attracts people from all over the state. The Griffin Area Arts Alliance is the home to all art forms in the city, and has been instrumental in renovating the historic Griffin Auditorium. The venue features an 1,100 seat theater and is home to the Griffin's yearly concerts as well as the city's ballet productions, and much more. In addition, the city of Griffin hosts an abundance of events, which attract thousands of visitors as well as local residents. One of those events is the Kiwanis Spalding County Fair held in October, attracting mostly younger people who love the many fun rides and games. Another major attraction is the Iris City Arts and Crafts Festival, an annual event in City Park, where local charity organizations raise funds for the community. All these events are meant to help bring the community together and create a more attractive spot to visit, and so far the town has been very successful in its endeavors.
